OBJECTIVE

To fulfill each student’s immediate and personal needs concerning language-learning while adapting to his or her abilities to take in information.

DURATION

The duration of a complete course for the student to reach a good Intermediate level is a minimum of 180  to 240 hours. It means three hours of classes, daily, at least for three months. Fluency depends on the student’s learning ability, skills and dedication. Students who find it easier to learn a language may be able to learn the language at a faster pace, and thus complete the course in less time. The student might then want to continue and target for a higher level of fluency and broaden his/her Portuguese vocabulary and knowledge of the language.

MATERIAL

In addition to the text books the school uses a collection of materials from a variety of sources. Grammar explanations and texts are also taken from different books and magazines, and followed by DVD’s and audio. It is often easier and more practical to meet student’ s personal needs this way.

METHODOLOGY

There is a different kind of methodology for each kind of student. However, we are convinced that to learn any foreign language well it is essential to practice all learning skills including using all five skills at the same time. Some students learn faster by practicing some skills rather than others. Before starting the Portuguese classes each student must do an interview and a placement test. He or she can then be placed in a group, if there is one,  which is at the same level, or take up private classes with a teacher who adapts to student’s profile. The Comparative Grammar Approach is also used at the beginning.  It is important for the student to know what can be translated literally, and what can not.  Also, there is bad spoken Portuguese, the colloquial Portuguese, which the student must also know about, and it isn´t often grammatically correct.

It is also  important is to turn the theory instantly into practice, so that the student can perceive its immediate value and need in real life.

DVD’s, CDs, magazines, games and reinforcement classes.

EXTRA ACTIVITIES

There are eventual social and cultural meetings at the school on Friday evenings, or at every three months, ifthere are groups Portuguese Language students.  Foreigners and Brazilians are invited to these events, and it is a good opportunity for students to meet Brazilians and practice their Portuguese. Wine, soft drinks, juices, snacks and games are provided.

Depending on the group there is the possibility of taking the students on interesting tours and casual programs around the city, countryside and/or coast, if it is convenient for the students;

TEACHER’S AVAILABILITY

It is advisable to have a fixed timetable, so that teachers can schedule their other classes. Nevertheless, we believe that flexibility is one of the most important keys to good class development. Provided the teacher is available and changes do not interfere with his or her commitments to other students, we can be flexible.

SCHOOL AVAILABILITY
The school is open to the students from:

  • 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday.
  • 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturdays.

In addition to this, every student who studies at BTC can help himself to tea and coffee
COSTS

The costs include:

Teacher commuting time when classes are in–company in the town center;

Parking lot discount when classes are given at the school.

The prices below are for students who have 3 or 4hs of classes per week, plus taxes and bank fees, not included in the table below. Students who take more than 6 hours of class a week receive 10% off the hourly value.
